Workshops & Programs

Kids will develop foundational rhythm & drumming skills, using movement, empowering language, and fun neuroplasticity exercises.  They will increase and improve their motor function, visual and auditory perception skills, language skills, executive functions, and social-emotional skills.

These exercises will also help kids build autonomy and cultivate self-confidence.

DRUMANAWÉ

Pre-School/Kindergarten (Ages 2-5)

This program is designed specifically for this younger age group, so as to develop essential, age appropriate skills, such as hand-eye coordination, body and spacial awareness, balance, sustained focus, listening and speaking skills, and the ability to express feelings.

This program also cultivates and fosters curiosity, a joy of learning, and a positive mindset about facing challenges.

In addition, this program supports students who struggle with ADHD, gross and fine motor function, language processing, emotional/impulse control, social interactions and relationship building.

DRUMANAWÉ

Girls
(Ages 7-10 & 10-14)

This program is designed specifically for pre-adolescent and adolescent girls to help them develop their physical, emotional, and cognitive skills in an environment that is all about girl power!

We address common issues faced by girls in this age group, such as body image, weight, low self-esteem, relationships, social anxiety, and academic pressures, among others.

Girls will build their self-confidence and self-love, and learn to cultivate the power of their voice—to use their voice to share their opinions,  ideas, and questions, their feelings and needs, and to establish and maintain personal boundaries.

In addition, this program supports students who struggle with ADHD, gross and fine motor function, language processing, emotional/impulse control, social interactions and relationship building.

Testimonials

I have known Carolina for years and have been amazed at what an incredible drummer she is and how she uses that gift to inspire others.  Her energy easy translates to work with kids and it has been an honor having her Drumawané workshop come to my camps and private programs.  Part percussion workshop, part exploration of self-love, but always all fun, everyone who participates seems to lose themselves in the energy of the workshop.

Drumanawé is beneficial for both kids and adults, as a reminder to trust ourselves, believe in ourselves, and let it all out in the drums!  I can’t wait to have them back again and again.

Benefits & Results

Kids who experience Drumanawé will...

Develop Foundational Rhythm & Drumming Skills

In addition to teaching children foundational drumming and music skills, our Drumanawé program is purposefully designed to supercharge children’s learning and development, using research-based techniques and exercises.

Playing rhythms and drumming requires both hemispheres of the brain to work together, and fosters neuroplasticity.

The coordination and cognitive function required to play rhythms fire-up neurons connecting the two hemispheres of the brain, synchronizing the brain's functions to be faster and more efficient.

This has been shown to improve IQ levels.

Improve Visual Perception Skills

Drumanawé exercises are focused on increasing and/or improving the ability to process, organize, interpret, and remember visual information, sequences, cues, and directions.

Children need visual perception skills to function well in school; it is a precursor for learning to read, write, and do math, as well as for paying attention and sustaining their focus.

Furthermore, visual perception allows children to begin to develop social awareness, through their ability to interpret facial expressions, body positioning, and gestures.

Improve Auditory Perception Skills

Auditory perception is an essential precursor to learning to read, write, and do math; it allows students to develop their ability to sustain their focus on one sound/voice when there are other sounds in the surrounding environment, and it creates the foundation for listening and speaking skills.

Our Drumanawé program includes a variety of fun exercises that are focused on developing and increasing the ability to process, organize, interpret, and remember information, sequence, cues, and directions given orally.

Build More Self-Esteem, Self-Love, Happiness, and Lower Depression

At Drumanawé we foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages play and a joy of learning.

We focus on building self-esteem, self-love, and happiness through our use of empowering techniques and fun neuroplasticity exercises that activate the pleasure and reward centers of the brain, stimulating the release of endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin (the body’s natural painkillers and “happy hormones”).

These feel-good neurotransmitters and hormones directly combat stress and fear hormones, such as cortisol, and help support children who suffer from anxiety, depression, and other traumas that can cause feelings of fear, shame, guilt, self-doubt, etc.

Increase & Improve Gross Motor Function

Gross motor function is essential for a child’s overall physical development and health.

It allows children to participate in sports and physical activities, it reduces their risk of injury, it is the necessary precursor for the development of the fine motor function, and it improves their ability to perform everyday tasks.

Our Drumanawé program includes fun exercises that are designed to  increase and improve children's balance, coordination, rhythm, and agility.

Our program focuses on developing skills, such as body awareness and control, spatial awareness, direction awareness, and moving rhythmically, among others.

Improve Language Skills

Language acquisition is a critical part of child development. It supports children's ability to communicate and understand feelings, and to develop and maintain relationships.

It also essential for achieving academic excellence since children need language skills for

critical thinking, listening, speaking, and problem-solving.

In our Drumanawé program, we focus on teaching rhythms and empowering language that not only supports children’s speaking and listening skills but also fosters positive self-talk.

Strengthen Executive Function Skills

Executive function refers to cognitive skills, developed in the neocortex portion of the brain (the “thinking” or “rational” brain”), such as attention span and focus, memory, adaptability, emotional control, and perseverance.

These skills are essential in order for children to function successfully in school and in life.

Our Drumanawé program includes a variety of fun exercises and empowering language that helps children develop these skills.

Our rhythm and neuroplasticity exercises are designed to stimulate both brain hemispheres to function in synchronicity, which has been proven to boost brainpower.

Understand Foundational Concepts About How Their Brain & Body Function

Here at Drumanawé we believe it is important for children to understand the purpose behind what they are being taught.

It is also through a mix of knowledge and experience, in a fun, playful, supportive environment, that children really internalize and remember what they are taught.

This is why, in addition to teaching children rhythms, neuroplasticity exercises, and empowering self-talk, we also explain foundational concepts about how their brain and body function, and how they can have full control over both!

Increase & Improve Fine Motor Skills

Our Drumanawé program focuses primarily on the development of eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity (finger strength, mobility, and control) through a variety of fun rhythm and neuroplasticity exercises.

Learning neuroplasticity exercises that involve finger dexterity, while listening to and playing rhythms is especially effective for boosting the development of children’s fine motor skills because the parts of the brain responsible for auditory processing and for motor function are connected; in other words, music speeds up the development of motor function skills.

Achieve More Balanced Energy Levels and Better Overall Health & Fitness

Drumanawé rhythm and neuroplasticity exercises are designed both to energize and to calm children, creating a healthy balance of energy levels.

Drumming stimulates the release of adrenaline, which gives their bodies a rush of energy, encouraging them to move, workout their muscles, and even break a sweat. It increases the flow of blood and oxygen throughout their body and brain, which is essential for the healthy functioning of their entire body!

At the same time, playing rhythms helps to regulate brain waves, as do our simple mindfulness exercises; regulated brain waves directly correlate to increased levels of focus, mindfulness, and feelings of peace and safety.

Strengthen Social-Emotional Wellness

Our Drumanawé program is designed to help children develop foundational social-emotional skills that are crucial for successful functioning both in school and in life.

Our exercises and techniques are designed to boost children’s self-awareness & self-management skills (their ability to identify, express, and manage their emotions), as well as their social awareness & relationship skills.
